Were there any irregularities in Osama's Burial?

Moderate Muslim community including many mosques agree that there were no irregularities in Osama-Bin-Laden's burial. He was killed on land but taken
to the ship and buried in the water. According to Muslim ritual one can be buried in water if one dies on sea.

U.S. Defense officials said bin Laden was buried at sea because Islamic rites require bodies to be buried within 24 hours of death, and the military did not know of any countries that were willing to accept the body for a land burial.

It was also  feared any land-based burial site would become a gathering point for al-Qaida supporters and turn into a shrine, which is forbidden in Islam.

Under the circumstances it would be permissible to bury him in water.
